Reconnect with Someone- Today’s Cheery Tip

May 18, 2009

So last week I met up with two college friends that I hadn’t seen in enough years that I was worried we may not recognize each other.  We had lost touch through the normal course of events and distance. I had managed to keep track of one of the friends through the internet- I found her husband on facebook and demanded he tell her to write ;-) .  So with a little help of the miracle of the internet we were able to get back in touch.  Turned out shortly after I contacted her husband, she was coming to town on business, and the other friend would also come to Boston.  A dinner reservation was secured with a request to have a quiet corner.  We had a great time, no one had actually changed much, we all recognized each other easily and we sat down to a great meal and felt like it just hadn’t been that long.   It cheered me up considerably.  So my tip of the day is to reconnect with someone – meet them in person if you can- it’s a much different effect than friending them on facebook.

Fossil Could Fill in Part of Missing Link

Of course there is still a lot of controversy, not only among paleontologists but then you can factor in the creationists who don’t believe in this at all.  None the less, another piece of evidence to examine.

Local politicians work together to make a KC neighborhood safer and eco-friendly

May 14, 2009

KC MOElected leaders will use economic stimulus funds to improve a run-down Kansas City, MO neighborhood.  In the process, they will put unemployed residents back to work, provide hands-on training for future teachers, reduce energy costs for low-income homeowners, and bring down crime rates.  It’s a great example of how leaders can collaborate and make maximum use of an investment, providing immediate and long term benefits.   Read More…

Right Whale, Making a Comeback

May 13, 2009

right whaleIt’s a bumper year for calves for North Atlantic right whales, one of the most endangered, and closely watched, species on earth. One of so many good signs that researchers are beginning to hope that for the first time in centuries things are looking up for the right whale. They say the species offers proof that simple conservation steps can have a big impact, even for species driven to the edge of oblivion.
